"India's beach and expat capital"

Goa is a state in southern India sitting along the country’s western coastline. The smallest state in India was once a Portuguese colony, and traces of this can be found via the large expat community and tropical spice plantations.

Many travelers either start or end their trip in Goa, and for good reason. The state is filled with beaches and the western influence has impacted the food and service standards in restaurants, bars, and guesthouses. Though a great place to relax most of the year, travelers should be wary of visiting Goa during peak holiday season when the crowds become very large and unsafe, particularly for women travelers.
